Alexander Gustafsson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira are being talked about to be facing each other on November 19 at the main event at the UFC Fight Night 100 in São Paulo, Brazil, according to MMA Fighting. The Gustafsson vs. Nogueira fight will be the main event on the card at the Ginásio de Ibirapuera in São Paulo.
Both of these fighters have had little success in their MMA careers up until recently. They both went through a two year period where they were unable to pick up a win. Finally, the two of them won their last matches in 2016. The 40-year-old Nogueira defeated Patrick Cummins by a 1st round TKO at UFC 198 in May of 2014. Before that, Nogueira had lost back to back fights to Mauricio Rua and Anthony Johnson in 2014 and 2014.
For his part, Gustafsson, 29, recently defeated Jan Blachwicz by a three round decision at UFC Fight Night in September this year in Hamburg, Germany. In Gustafsson’s two fights before that, he was beaten by Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson.
Gustafsson has lost three out of his last five matches. That’s not good. The results of those fights showed pretty clearly that Gustafsson is missing on the talent department to compete with the best in the MMA sport. He’s a decent fighter, but obviously he can’t cut the mustard when he goes up against the upper echelon level fighters at UFC.
It’s hard to understand why Gustafsson vs. Nogueira is the main event at UFC Fight Night 100, because it’s not really a main event worthy match-up in my opinion. I see this fight as more of the first fight of the night type of match-up rather than a main event type of fight. I’m just saying. I think Nogueira and Gustafsson is a fight that is better for the off TV part of the card rather than anything that is televised. because it’s just not a good fight.
